Carlos Forster Ft. M. Ward - Campfire Songs

Picked up Carlos Forster's album Family Trees upon a recommendation at Hear Again. Loving it more with each rotation.

Life - Flows

I posted about Life a few months ago to share their Living/Dying project. Sven, the guitarist of Life, just emailed me about their new release Flows. Another solid release from Life. Check out their unique hand made CDs (Physical product all the way!).

Maximum Ballon - Groove Me

I'm of the general philosophy that if you have a chill beat and Theophilus London you can't go wrong. The video is also pretty cool. Turns out Maximum Balloon is the solo project of David Sitek from TV on the Radio.

M. Ward's Return to Me

M. Ward just announced he'll be working on solo material again this year. Exciting news from one of my favorite artists. Read the interview here: Immaculate Noise. I'm gonna use this as an excuse to post some videos I watch all the time now.

Stuart Newman - Single But Defective

I heard the Eels and Sparklehorse as I started listening to Stuart Newman. It's tastefully minimal and demanding. His album, Single But Defective, finds him matching lightly finger picked guitar with whispered vocals. Give it a listen:

Sophie Madeleine - Song to Fall in Love to

Two things I like: a good song and a pretty girl. In that order too. Sophie Madeleine offers both. I found her about six months ago and have been a fan since. She just released a new Youtube video for "Song to Fall in Love to:"

Birdie Hilltop - The Sorrow

I just saw a video for Birdie Hilltop's "The Sorrow." It's an older song, but I guess I missed the video for it.

The Sorrow from Birdie Hilltop on Vimeo.

I was checking out his old website, as well, and found out there are stories behind each of his record. The Sorrow:
"This album took two years to complete, and although recorded digitally it is still decidedly lo-fi. There is experimentation with a fuller sound due to a larger number of available tracks, and a host of instruments make an appearance - electric guitar and bass, percussion, a real piano, etc. Recorded in New York and Lancaster 2007-2009"

You're So Cool - Keep Passing the Open Windows

You're so Cool just released a new album called Keep Passing the Open Windows. It's like their older stuff met up with Grizzly Bear and finds them treading more experimental territory. Check it out, I really like "I Don't Mind."

Colorfeels

It's one of those ethereal music kind of days. I've caught Colorfeels twice live in Nashville. The first time they were kind of timid as their music indicates and maybe that was because there wasn't a big crowd, but the second time I saw them they rocked out. Either way, they were good shows. They're getting ready to release an LP, so keep an eye out for it. In the mean time, you can listen to these:

California Wives - Tokyo

Man am I sucker for lush soundscapes! California Wives have created just that while simultaneously writing a great pop song. I'm gonna go ahead and call it my find of the day. Thanks to The Needle Drop!

Seekae - Gnor

Just heard this track over at The Needle Drop. It's a super chill instrumental track with slow build and layering. Enjoy.

S. Carey at the Basement

S. Carey is playing at the Basement in Nashville on Monday. You may know him as the drummer of Bon Iver, but the man makes amazing music in his own right. My plans for Monday night are now set.

Casa Castile

In the wake of the Shins and lately Chillwave, plenty of people are making music in their bedroom. Andrew Nabuco is included in this category of people and he does an exceedingly good job at it. Making music under the moniker of Casa Castile his debut, Vake, is a foray into psychedelia and pop. It's a great listen clocking in at just under 26 minutes and is up for free download on Mediafire.

I first saw Andrew and his live band a few months ago at a house show. They're one of the best live shows you can catch in Nashville, so make sure you do.

Big K.R.I.T. - Dreamin'

K.R.I.T. is one of my favorite rappers. Apparently his mixtape is dropping soon, the 28th. I caught this video for the single at The Needle Drop.
